Roll Goods — Filter Fabrics
Cotton Filter Fabric
Natural fibre filter fabric with a long heritage in industrial filtration. Cotton offers good particle retention, a smooth calendered surface for excellent cake release, and is biodegradable. Available in plain, twill and satin weave from stock rolls.
Material Properties
Natural & Biodegradable
100% natural cellulose fibre. Biodegradable and compostable. Preferred where environmental regulations require natural materials.
Temperature Range
Continuous operation up to 100 °C. Retains mechanical properties well within this range. Not suitable for steam sterilisation.
Chemical Resistance
Good resistance to weak acids and most organic solvents. Poor resistance to strong acids and alkalis (pH 3–9). Not for aggressive chemical environments.
Mechanical Properties
Good tensile strength and abrasion resistance in dry conditions. When calendered, provides a defined, smooth surface for excellent cake discharge.
Calendered Surface
Calendering compacts the fabric surface, reducing porosity and creating a smooth finish. This significantly improves cake release and filtrate clarity.
OEM Compatibility
We can produce compatible replacement cloths for OEM cotton cloth specifications. Send us your existing spec or a sample — we match it.

Cotton vs. Synthetic: When to Choose Cotton
✓ Choose Cotton When
- OEM specification requires cotton (exact replacement)
- Biodegradable filter cloth is required by regulation
- Food-grade natural fibre is specified
- Non-acidic slurries at moderate temperatures (≤ 100 °C)
- Smooth cake release from calendered surface is priority
- Disposable filter cloth (single-use, compostable)
✗ Consider Synthetic When
- Acidic or strongly alkaline process (pH < 3 or > 9)
- Extended service life is critical (cotton wears faster)
- Steam sterilisation or high temperature required
- Hydrolysis resistance needed (wet environments > 80 °C)
- Aggressive chemical cleaning (NaOH, HCl)
See our PP, PET, or PA filter fabrics for synthetic alternatives.
