Belt Press Fabrics
High-performance filter belts for belt press dewatering. Engineered for maximum sludge throughput, low maintenance, and consistent cake dryness.
About Belt Presses
Belt presses (also called belt filter presses) dewater sludge by passing it between two tensioned filter belts through a series of pressure rollers. The process combines gravity drainage, low-pressure squeezing, and high-pressure compression to achieve maximum dry solids content.
Belt presses are the standard dewatering equipment in municipal wastewater treatment plants and are widely used in paper mills, food processing, and industrial sludge handling. Both the upper and lower belt play distinct roles and may require different fabric specifications.
Typical Applications
Common Challenges
Belt presses demand robust, dimensionally stable filter belts that handle continuous compression and shear.
Belt Tracking & Tension
Both belts must track straight under variable sludge loads. Dimensional stability, controlled elongation, and guide strips prevent belt drift.
Drainage Rate
The gravity drainage zone sets the pace. Open weave constructions with high initial water removal rate are critical for overall press performance.
Sludge Retention
Biological sludge contains very fine particles. The belt must retain conditioned flocs while allowing free water to pass through rapidly.
Abrasion & Flex Life
Continuous flexing over dozens of rollers plus scraper contact demands high abrasion resistance and flex fatigue strength.
Washability
High-pressure spray wash bars clean each belt revolution. The fabric must release residual sludge effectively to prevent progressive blinding.
Upper vs. Lower Belt
The upper belt handles gravity drainage; the lower belt provides the compression surface. Each may benefit from different weave openings and surface properties.
